If you are in pain you should apply an ice pack to the area affected
which will decrease any swelling in that area and also help to relieve
the pain.
Cold Therapy
The following steps should be followed :
Apply an ice pack or a packet of frozen peas wrapped in a damp
teatowel in order to protect the skin around the troubled area.
Leave the ice pack in place for ten minutes then remove for ten
minutes to allow the area to warm up naturally.
Patients suffering acute pain should repeat this process three
times an hour for two hours. Afterwards patients may apply the ice
pack once every two hours (for ten minutes only).
Only very rarely will cold therapy aggravate the pain. If this
does occur or the pain continues it is recommended that you cease
cold therapy and immediately consult your chiropractor.
